Brett Favre returns for 20th NFL season
40-year-old Brett Favre has decided to return to the Minnesota Vikings to compete for another chance at an National
Football League championship ring.
Favre, who celebrates his 41st birthday in two months rejoined his teammates yesterday at the Viking’s Eden Prairie practice facility for his first workout of the season. Favre’s return ended months of speculation as to whether he had the physical capacity and mental toughness to withstand a twentieth season competing as a starting quarterback in the NFL. “I owe it to this organization to give it one more try” said Favre. Returning to a career that began in 1990 was not an easy decision for the forty year old Viking quarterback. “I could make a case for both playing, not playing,” Favre said. “This is a very good football team, the chances here are much greater than other places. From that standpoint, it was always going to be easier”.
Favre admits that he is not in his physical prime. He also points out that he has played in 309 straight games. Some of those games that were played the last two season saw Favre playing while hurt. This is nothing new for the veteran quarterback. Last year he suffered a foot injury and had surgery to repair the damage this past May.
Favre returns to a Minnesota Vikings team that looks very similar to the team that took to the field last year. That should bode well for the resilient quarterback who feels like he can carry his team to one more NFC championship and perhaps even the Super Bowl.
